Approaching the base of the climb ... I can still remember the first time I road this. It was the middle of winter and I was riding from Birmingham to Mount Cheaha for a Samford new faculty retreat. I can still remember how excited I was knowing that I was about to climb to Alabama's highest point for the first time (the Cheaha Challenge which I have done several times doesn't actually climb to the top of the mountain)
