Beach training

I just got back from a very fun beach vacation that included two great days of training with my teammate Lennie. The roads there are pretty flat, but you do notice the little rollers when you are trying to maintain 25-28mph with a tailwind or 20-23mph into a headwind! 110 miles over two days in just over 5 hours total riding. The steady intensity adds up with an average power reading of 270 watts today for a 2 hour 17 minute ride and 263 watts yesteray for a 2 hour 47 minute ride.

A couple weekends off

We’re heading to the beach this weekend with Lennie and his family. It’s going to be fun, but I am hoping to get in at least one long easier paced ride, maybe even riding part of the way back to Birmingham on Sunday before Kristine picks me up. No matter what, I am definitely not racing this weekend or next. Only two more race weekends left!

Saul Raisin’s Raisin Hope / Tour the Town Criterium on October 5th. Then the Downtown Greenville Cycling Classic the following weekend October 11th-12th. Then that’s it!

This weekend … check it out – we are going to the beach! Here’s a map from Birmingham to Seagrove Beach, Florida where we will be staying.

We are taking our bike trailer because we are close to some very cool bike paths so we want to take the kids on a ride. I think we are going to take a bike for Kristine, too, so this will be the first time she has been on bike since UC Davis!

Large homemade spider ... perfect decoration for the host of spiders on the Leeds atv trail out the back of the neighborhood! Saw this hawk this morning hovering in the crazy updraft coming up Hwy 31 while I was waiting at the Hwy 31 / Shades Crest light. I really needed this today to be reminded that it is possible to be and stay graceful in the midst of all the chaos around us everywhere. I guess I will have to start wearing long finger gloves at some point this fall.
